It was reported that 470 people died, 15,842 homes were destroyed , 37,825 homes were damage, 170,815 families in total were effected by the disaster. Currently there are more than 150,735 people who are still in shelter and are homeless with no food, clothes, or clean water. Many farmers lost their land and livestock, and those who were poor became poorer. Residence are desperately in need of help, so that they can rebuild homes, reconstruct agricultural life, and to be independent and having a lasting development. Below are some pictures of the devastation.
The Devastation Of The Hurricanes.
Foundation of Hope for Haiti (FONEH) with a weak economical situation engage to continue to work in the poorest communities in Haiti with farmers groups, cooperatives, women associations, in the domains of education, agricultural, health, rural economy so that we can alleviate human poverty and suffering through the integrated development and lasting without racial discrimination and religion. The Foundation engages also to fight against rural exodus, Haitian boat people to decrease the rate of the death over the sea.
Immediately after the hurricanes, the staff of Foundation of Hope for Haiti has visited the people for the first time; we saw with our own eyes the difficult situation, misery and hunger of the people who merit an immediate action for all Haitians people who are living in the despair everyday. In that time we could not move away without giving to them anything. We distributed some thousands Haitians dollars to the needy people. We have noticed that the situation has gotten worse because the shelters that were donated to the residence were tents made of cloth, and have become useless during the rain.
Among all victim people from farmers association, we certified 60 families really don't have helps. Building a small house for each one and help those to work their peace land are very important. The foundation of Hope for Haiti (FONEH) wants to start to work together with them a lasting project.
FONEH's staff has visited people in the temporary shelter 22 days after we have distributed to them rice and oil on November 13, 14, 2008 in spite of our weak economical situation. We fed about 6341 families for two weeks. We know that is not really enough because most of them didn't find and even those 6341 families will still need food after two weeks, as we want to get back to them again, we invite you to join us to get hands together to do something more for them.
Many of these regions have no clean water which is a major problem to the health of the population and children have to walk miles and miles to search for water that for most of the time is polluted and causes more damage to the health of the population. FONEH wants to bring some solution to this everlasting problem by helping the population with Wells. The foundation is in the process of helping with the ecology by teaching the population to replace the trees that they are cutting to make charcoal.
